Waffles with honey recipe

Whole wheat waffles

Light, fluffy and tasty, these whole wheat waffles hit the spot.


  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 6 tbsp (85g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar*
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 420ml buttermilk
  • Honey, to serve


  1. Preheat waffle maker to medium-high heat.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl. Whisk the remaining ingredients in a medium bowl until combined. Pour into dry ingredients and whisk until combined and no large lumps remain.
  3. Pour ⅓ cup of the batter into each well of the waffle maker (or less if your waffle maker is on the smaller side) and close the lid. Cook the waffles until golden brown and crisp.
  4. Serve waffles warm with honey and fruit of your choice!
